The Platform was seeded on 28 September 2018 at the Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility at The New School in New York City. Against the backdrop of the 73^rd United Nations General Assembly and the adoption of the Global Compacts on Migration and Refugees, a small group of leading academics and practitioners gathered to examine the role of academia in making ‘migration work for all.’ The day of discussion culminated in establishing a platform that would allow members to share ideas, collaborate on research, and reach a broader audience to implement member recommendations.
